GOAL:

School and state graduation requirements are: Two semesters of Health and two semesters of P.E.

CURRICULUM:

HEALTH (Freshmen and Sophomores):
Health is a Marist and State graduation requirement. One semester is offered in both the Freshman and Sophomore years. The curriculum covers current health issues, with the emphasis on prevention, wellness and decision-making skills. The course is divided into units concerning all aspects of social, mental, and physical health. Healthy choices are examined ethically, morally, and with the dignity of the person in mind.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION (Freshmen and Sophomores):
This class is for Freshmen and Sophomores, and is taken one semester each year, alternating with one semester of health. All physical education classes are co-ed. Students play a variety of team and individual sports. Conditioning and weights will be stressed through out the semester. Students will be evaluated in three areas: Participation, effort, attendance, strategy, rules, and skill tests.

ADDITIONAL ELECTIVES:

STRENGTH-POWER TRAINING & AGILITY:
This is an intense weight-training program designed to aid the student athlete in building muscular size, strength and power. Instruction includes musculo-skeletal anatomy and weight training principles. Weight workouts are performed 3-4 days a week, with at least one day devoted to an agility program that focuses on improving flexibility, quickness, and muscular endurance. This class is for the student serious about improving his/her strength and agility.

TEAM SPORTS:
This is an opportunity for upper classmen to enjoy physical activity during the school day. A variety of games and activities enable participants to develop team building, increase endurance, and engage in competitive play.

HIP-HOP:
Hip-Hop is a semester long dance class. Students will master dance skills and memorize choreography. Techniques of how to choreograph will be taught, along with the origin of the Hip-Hop genre of dance, including history and the cultural impact of the Hip-Hop movement.
