How do I find a book in the Academic Resource Center?
You should first check the online catalog. The catalog can be accessed from any on- or off-campus computer with Internet access. You can then do a search by title, author or subject as well as see if the book is in or out. You'll want to get the book's call number so you can look for it in the stacks. If you need further assistance, see Mr. Huck or the Parent Volunteer on duty.
You'll see white tags at the top of the shelves with the call number topics (Dewey Decimal System numbers):
000 Computers, Information & General Reference 100 Philosophy & Psychology 200 Religion 300 Social Sciences 400 Language 500 Science 600 Technology 700 Arts & Recreation 800 Literature 900 History & Geography
Fiction books are all located on shelves along the wall opposite the main stacks.
How do I check a book out?
Take the book to Mr. Huck or the Parent Volunteer so they can check it out for you.
How many days may I check a book out?
14 days. At the end of that time period, you must either return the book or renew it the same way you checked it out. Have the book with you to get it renewed.
Reference books, marked with a yellow "Reference" tag, are for use in the Library only and may not be checked out.
How many books can I check out at one time?
You may borrow 5 books at one time. Where do I return books when I'm done?
Please return books to Mr. Huck or the Parent Volunteer on duty. You may also use the outside drop box marked "Book Depository" at the Academic Resource Center entrance facing the 300-wing if your book is being returned on time.
What if a book is overdue?
Return the book directly to Mr. Huck. Please do not use the outside drop slot. You will owe $.10 per day that the book is overdue. All fines are put into the book fund to buy new books and materials. Your borrowing privileges are suspended until all overdue fines are paid. Continued non-payment of fines and/or books not returned by the end of a semester will result in Referrals to the Dean of Students.
What if I lost a book?
You will be charged the cost of a new replacement book + any overdue fines you owe on the item. Or you may purchase a new replacement book yourself in which case overdue fines will be forgiven. Your borrowing privileges are suspended until all lost items and overdue fines are paid. Any books not returned as of the end of the school year in June are considered "lost" and the cost of a new replacement is forwarded to the student's account at the Business Office.
What do I do if I damaged a book?
Damage to an item includes, but is not limited to: water damage, underlining or writing on or in the item, torn or removed pages, pet damage. There is no charge for normal wear and tear.
If the damage requires a new replacement book, it will be treated as lost - see "What if I lost a book?"
