Frequently Asked Questions About Applying for Work at Marist Catholic High School:

• Am I eligible to teach in the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon?
  Marist Catholic High School is operated by the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon. However, you will be applying directly to Marist Catholic High School for any open positions. Applicants who hold valid current Oregon Teaching Licenses or who are in the process of receiving such licenses are eligible for teaching positions in the Archdiocese of Portland and Marist Catholic High School. Applicants who have an out-of-state teaching license may submit an application; however, they must be in contact with the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission about the requirements for an Oregon License. If you are currently in a teacher education program, you can turn in an application, as long as you are in the final quarter or semester of the program.
   
• I have an out-of-state license. Can I still apply?
  Yes, you can. If you are hired for a position, the principal will need to request a waiver from the Assistant Superintendent for the Archdiocese for you to teach while you are working on getting an Oregon license. For more information about applying for an Oregon license, please check the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission website.
   
• I'm not Catholic; can I still teach at Marist or the Archdiocese?
  While all teachers of Religion must be Catholic, it is recognized that teachers of other faiths can make valuable contributions as members of the teaching staff. These teachers are employed on the condition that they understand and are fully committed to the distinctive purpose and spirit of Catholic education.
   
• How do I become a substitute teacher at Marist Catholic High School?
  To be on our substitute teacher list, you will need to apply as you would any other teaching position.
   
• What about salary?
  Salary for both regular and substitute teaching is decided by the Principal of Marist Catholic High School.
   
• What about non-teaching Marist staff positions?
  Non-teaching staff positions are also listed on this page as they become available. Eligibility requirements for these positions are the same, other than licensing requirements.
