Annual Marist Talent Show - March 2, 2011
For the first time in Marist Talent Show history, we had not one but two ties! According to Science Department teacher Ryan Moser, who has been facilitating the judges for some time, the chances of this happening are “astronomically small!” These ties are evidence of the tremendous talent and variety at this year’s show. Congratulations to all participants!
Tied for 1st place were Micah Stratton and Michael Busse performing “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” by The Script and Ben Fish and the Bluesbusters (Ben Fish, Micah Stratton, and Jackson Bedbury) performing a medley of “Love Struck Baby” by Stevie Ray Vaughn and “Lonely Boy Blues,” an original song. Tied for 2nd place were Wendy Hong performing a traditional Chinese dance to “Arirang”* and Malicious Mangos (Savannah Johnson, Cassie Harrison, Ben Fish, Justin Geertsen, and Mr. Jim Reinking) performing “Break Me Out” by The Rescues. Highlights of the show included original music by Trish Laver, Brooke and Dillon Gemmell, Micah Stratton, and Ben Fish; a monologue ironically entitled “I Hate Hamlet” by Ali Thoreson, the Assistant Director of Marist’s production of Hamlet; a skit en espanol by the AP Spanish class; and dance performances by Wendy and members of our cheerleading squad. * Wendy gives us some background on her dance: “Arirang” is a well-known folk song in China, which reflects the large Korean population in the Liaoning and Jilin Provinces of that country. “Dance Arirang” is accompanied by that folk song, using the unique fingering of Korean dance, gestures and the breath of dancing, thus expressing the beautiful Korean girl’s wish of pursuing a good life and a perfect future.
