Erin Gallo, Ph.D
World Languages Department, Assistant Varsity Girls Soccer Coach
I am joining the Marist community after 10 years teaching Spanish language and culture in higher education (Univ. of Nevada, Reno, Univ. of Oregon, and Lane Comm. College). Although I originally came to Eugene to begin my doctoral program, it was here that I unexpectedly made my home. In my classes, I encourage my students to see Spanish-speaking people and their shared language not as exotic and foreign but as subjects that intersect with our own values and traditions in our local and national cultures. Furthermore, Latin America’s Catholic background will be an important point of connection to MCHS students. It is an honor to witness my students empowered by their personal and academic growth in language learning. Here at Marist, I will also be assisting the Girls Varsity soccer team where I can share another of my lifelong passions. Before Marist, I coached for 4 years at Sheldon High School. Now, I can’t wait to get to know my students and student-athletes in a more interpersonal fashion.
