Spiritual Guidance and Pastoral Care

In the tradition of Catholic education everywhere, Marist is invested in the development of mind, body, and soul. Therefore, as a community, Marist actively supports the faith development of its members through formal programs such as Theology Class, prayer and worship, and retreats. But it also supports faith development and spiritual exploration through informal means, especially the mentorship of staff members, and the companionship of students. We encourage students to seek spiritual guidance and support from any staff member or peer with whom they are comfortable. The Campus Ministry Department – Dr. Rick Martin and Mrs. Julie Ferrari – are available and committed to individual and group support as desired by students.

“Pastoral care” is being compassionately present to the real and day-to-day needs of the student community at Marist. Compassion, the virtue of the suffering Christ, is so honored in the Catholic tradition that it is considered the hallmark of a true Christian community. Working with the Counseling Department, Campus Ministry, and the school more generally, actively support students through their life stresses. These strategies include the CARE Team which supports students in time of tragedy or loss, RESPONSE, a suicide-prevention and intervention program, and as aforementioned, chaplain availability for counseling and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
